Time for us to introduce you to another one of our lovely makers! This week it’s Jo Gardiner’s turn, the creative mind (and fingers!) behind Jo Gardiner Art. Jo is a multimedia artist, whose love of nature is demonstrated beautifully through her work.
“I am a self taught artist with a love of animals and wildlife. I don’t limit myself to any particular medium and I’m always experimenting with different ways to create art, however, fibre art has become a massive part of the art that I create.”
We can see why – her needle felted animals are some of the sweetest things we have ever seen!
Cuteness alert! These polar bears & hare are handmade to order.
Jo discovered needle felting after seeing some lovely sculptures her neighbour had created. She watched a couple of online tutorials, bought some basic equipment, and decided to have a go.
“I was hooked! Needle felting is an ancient craft that involves using barbed needles to entangle/matt wool together. I like to think that my style is quirky and unique, as are my felted animal portraits.”
That face! Each of Jo’s creations has it’s own character – like this guy, who looks like butter wouldn’t melt.
Jo is based between her home in Staffordshire Moorlands and her studio in Macclesfield. She makes her needle felt animals to order and each collectable is lovingly crafted over 3-14 days. Jo uses 100% wool and barbed needles to sculpt carded wool into delicate 3D figures.
This robin can perch anywhere thanks to his wire legs.
As well as creating gorgeous felted animals, Jo sells greeting cards of her original artwork.
Her appreciation of the British countryside is reflected lovingly in her creations. Jo works with pastel, pencil, pen and watercolours to create animal portraits that look soft enough to stroke! Here are some of our favourites:
Jo’s cards will put a smile on any recipient’s face!
Each card is professionally printed and comes blank inside – ready and waiting for your message of love, thanks or thinking of you! These cards are perfect for the nature lover in your life, although who wouldn’t smile at this little face…
How better to thank someone for their advice than this wise owl card?
