Beespoke Wedding Denim Jackets

When we get a new supplier on And so to Shop, we get mega giddy! The newest member of our team of creatives is the lovely Katie from Beespoke. Katie hand makes personalised wedding denim jackets, perfect for the bride or bridesmaids to style on their wedding day. We love the look they create! Modern, alternative and throwing the rule book out of the window to create a totally edgy bridal style. Katie sells them through And so to Shop and also in her beautiful boutique bridal shop 'The Aisle' in Ilkley. We may just have to treat ourselves. Summer's coming and we need one in our lives - wedding or no wedding!

We caught up with Katie herself to find out about how she launched this awesome idea...

About me

For as long as I can remember I have always been interested in fashion and style, and luckily I have a creative mind! I knew throughout school I wanted to work in the fashion industry so took the path towards a fashion degree.

I studied fashion design at Northumbria University. Whilst there I had amazing placements with Burberry and Republic, giving me a great insight into the industry. I also won an opportunity to travel to America to visit the Abercrombie and Fitch head office.

Once I graduated I moved to London, and worked for an outerwear supplier, with my designs in River Island, Topshop, Debenhams, Miss Selfridge etc. I then decided I wanted to try retail so moved to Dorothy Perkins.

After a couple of years, I decided London was no longer for me – I loved the city and the lifestyle, but I missed Yorkshire! I returned north and worked for a supplier as a nightwear and loungewear designer for a few years – before deciding it was time to take the plunge and set up on my own!

I got married in May 2017, and when planning my own wedding, found that although theirs great imagery and ideas on the internet, the UK seemed a little stuck in a traditional time warp.  I wanted to fuse together my knowledge of fashion with the wedding industry – creating something fresh and new for all the stylish females out there desperate for a trend driven wedding.

I’m obsessed with Denim Jackets.  Such a great staple piece of clothing that will never go out of fashion.  On our honeymoon, I bought myself a men's Levis jacket as I preferred the fit – but felt it needed a bit of a feminine touch adding! I used a broken necklace and took it to pieces, stitching on the elements creating something fun and unique.  I then decided to add a slogan   - I love a slogan tee so decided why not put one on my jacket!

I never thought of turning it into a business, but as I wore my jacket, friends started asking me to make them one – and then friends of friends were getting in touch! I started sourcing vintage jackets from the internet and vintage fairs, but as I grew I decided I needed to source one style of jacket.

I spent quite a while looking for the perfect fit, wash of denim and quality.  I work with a supplier in the far east that supply many of the big denim companies.

I then embellish the jackets myself in my Yorkshire studio  - I have 3 main styles, feather, pom-pom and pearl, and can have up to 9 letters per jacket!

Every jacket has a little gold embroidered Bee representing the brand which we just love!

I think our jackets are perfect for the laid-back modern bride wanting something a little different. They are an alternative cover-up for cooler British evenings.  And even better, create some amazingly cool imagery – especially if the bridesmaids have them too.

We also love how they can be worn again and again – great for a night out, hen dos, and you never know – wear one on your honeymoon to help get an upgrade!

Take a look this weekend and get some ordered for you and your tribe! Wear it for your hen party,  wedding day and definitely, as Katie mentioned, to the airport when you go on your honeymoon. "Hello check-in desk, read the denim jacket, in case you missed it, we've just got married and you should soooo upgrade us!" - always worth a try!

Katie's jackets can be found over on And so to Shop.

Have a lovely weekend!
