Disco Inspiration for the Indie Bride to Be

Dry January is well and truly over and we say a big welcome hello to February. So to celebrate those of you who made it through dry January, we’re turning to disco this Friday. Yes, as the song goes - D-I-S-C-O! Shake off the winter blues, get those party shoes back on and get on that dance floor you’ve missed for a month. This styled shoot captured by Tiree Dawson is wild, free-spirited and indie style meets disco, Studio 54, seventies vibes. Get the Babysham in the fridge, we’re throwing you back to the seventies.

What I love most about this shoot is the drama and demure shown in the dresses and models within a gorgeous venue. Then the switch over into letting your hair down and getting straight into disco mode adds to the excitement. We’re talking hoop earrings, flare details and of course, mirrored disco balls. This shoot has everything to inspire your wedding day; elegant, fun and punchy as! Style ideas for the Indie Bride looking to rock out her wedding day in a unique way.

Let’s just take a look at the secret styling recipe from an amazingly creative team of wedding suppliers.

The Venue

Set in the grounds of Kirklinton Hall, the shoot is a tale of two halves. The first showcasing the beautiful, historic backdrop and walled gardens with charm and romance. The natural stone, ruined walls and bare trees contrast against the pops of colour in the flowers and details to make a statement, contrasting in a fierce but magical way. The second half of the shoot, the energising backdrop of colour, vibrancy and fun. Much like a wedding day, the romance and anticipation before and during the ceremony and then a wild, let your hair down disco to celebrate in a retro, indie bride way.

The Peacock Chair

When a shoot starts with an electric blue peacock chair from Wilde and Romantic, adorned with lush florals from Bracken of Bowness, you just know it’s going to be different and exciting. The peacock chair, a design classic with a punch of colour for that modern day twist, sits with cascading floral decor that flow into the textured ruins.

The Flowers

A unique work of art lies within the bouquets and floral styling from Brackens of Bowness. The dramatic shapes and deep tones are perfect for the disco, edgy feel that's reflected in Erin’s stunning black wedding dress and striking bridal make-up by Aimee Chorley. The feature protea flower nestled in the bouquet is the star of the show, and the pops of yellow add a vibrant colour, capturing the real magic of disco. The long bouquet of calla lilies and ferns is totally unique and a huge hop skip and a jump away from the traditional bridal bouquet shape. It’s an instant wow factor with the unusual long shape and ferns giving a botanical, free-spirited feel.

The Decor

‘Follow the call of the disco ball’ - we sure will! Nothing says disco like a classic mirrored ball and lots of them placed on the blue and glam gold backdrop by Typical Type to really set the tone. The light reflecting from them is surreal, trippy, and psychedelic. Together with the glow stick backdrop, it really shows off how creative lighting can be on your wedding day! The eclectic details of Babysham, flamingos and peacock feathers from Wilde and Romantic reiterate the carefree disco theme.

The Dresses

Erin wears a strong statement, black wedding dress from Legend Bridal Designs. The long black lace sleeves and v-cut back are elegant and classy. Crystal’s white lace design captures an essence of the seventies with stunning flared, flowing lace arms and a deep neckline. Perfect for that disco diva look.

The Hair & Makeup

Erin’s eyes are simply captivating and striking, the eclectic blue mirroring the peacock chair and disco neon brights of the backdrop. The up style by Aqua Salonis also classy and adds total sophistication to the shoot. In contrast, Crystal’s full volume hairstyle is playful and full of energy. The movement in the dress, her hair and those hoop earrings are big and bountiful like the disco trend.
