The Wedit: Love Leeds
Welcome to the third in our Wedit series. Today our Founder and Editor In Chief is taking over the helm to showcase the wonderful wedding delights of Leeds with you.
'Hello' from up North. Today I am going to be sharing with you the where's, what's and must have's from my adopted home, Leeds. Having just been ranked number 5 in The Lonely Planet, Best In Eurpoe - Our hotlist of European destinations you need to see in 2017, Leeds has been recognised for it's forward thinking, style driven and friendly nature, not to mention our love of craft beer!
In the last 10 years, Leeds has grown and changed both architecturally and culturally, giving it's inhabitants and visitors alike a fun, vibrant and stylish setting for any celebration.
Hen & Stag Celebrations
Let's start with the pre-wedding stuff. If you're planning a hen or stag celebration, Leeds has so much to offer. From the stellar two-week-long indie food festival in May to the thriving night life and club scene, Leeds Carnival to the many outdoor and indoor activities available, there is something for everyone. You can spend the day shopping, enjoying the local art gallery's, restaurants and beauty hot spots, then let your hair down in the many bars, theatres and clubs which all share one thing in common, some good old fashioned Northern friendliness.
Cocktails | The Botanist
If cocktails are your thing, then become a master maker in one of the many cocktail classes available in Leeds. Head to Roxy Ball Room, Mojo or The Botanist depending on your bride or grooms style and taste. Want something a little more civilised? How about afternoon tea, with a spot of fizz of course, at Just Grand! Vintage Tearoom, Filmore & Union or the fabulously vintage Dulce Butterfly. Having spent many a celebration at the wonderful Lazy Lounge I can highly recommend their wine and gin tasting experiences. Sitting around a fabulous grand piano, tasting the best in wine and gin with good food, good friends and good laughs is surely a great way to celebrate the oncoming nuptials.
Spa | Oulton Hall
Want some R & R? The many hotels that line the city centre streets offer fabulous spa packages, providing you with a base to then go out and discover the city. Oulton Hall is a great place to call home whilst staying in Leeds. The new First Direct Arena is a recent addition to our city and caters for every taste, from John Bishop to Steps, from Elton John to The Stone Roses.
We can't walk about Leeds without mentioning shopping. Leeds habitants love to shop! And Leeds itself attracts shoppers from miles around to frequent the many boutiques, larger department stores and unique, quirky independent stores that line it's streets. From Harvey Nichols to The Handmade Collective, whatever your taste and style Leeds has something for you.
Wedding Dress Shop | The Bridal Emporium
If you're looking for 'the one' (and of course I'm talking about your dress), head to The Bridal Emporium. Stockists of great dress designers as well as a fabulous vintage collection, Claire-Amelia Toole, owner of The Bridal Emporium offers an inhouse seamstress service meaning Claire and her team can do all your alterations, or create you a totally unique, one off wedding dress. If it's accessories you're after, The Bridal Emporium has this covered too. Featuring accessories from the fantastically talented Amanda Moon Headwear and Jewellery By Laima, you can get the perfect finishing touches to your wedding day look.
Leeds also has an abundance of hand makers (which as you know, we love!). From Pop Up shops run by Team Leeds Etsy to The Handmade Collective, if you love handmade, Leeds is for you. Whether you're shopping for wedding favours, gifts for your bridesmaids, handmade bow ties, wedding shoes, fabulous accessories or tailored suits, Leeds is packed full of creative artisans who love what they do and want to make something unique for you.

Lets get down to business. If you're wanting to tie the knot up North, consider Leeds and all it has to offer. From vast country estates with beautifully historic houses to inner city chic venues that offer something a bit different.
We are blessed to have a stunning Town Hall that provides a fantastic city centre venue to tie the knot. Just a stones throw from vibrant bars, restaurants, hotels and the fabulous Art Gallery, you'll be spoiled for choice when it comes to a reception venue.

If you've always had your heart set on a more rural setting for your big day, Leeds has beautiful countryside in abundance. Two of my personal favourite venues with a countryside feel at Temple Newsam and Northorpe Hall. Both are still within the city limits and each has a very unique look and feel. Temple Newsam is a council run stately home with acres of gardens, woodland, a farm, tearooms and pond. Northorpe Hall is a charity run venue in a relatively built up area, but turn down what seems like a hidden entrance and you're transported to the countryside. Featuring a beautiful barn setting with gardens and plenty of outside space, not to mention all their proceeds go towards supporting children in the local area.
Macarons | Poppy Pickering
Once you have the setting, your attention will undoubtedly turn to sourcing fabulously talented wedding suppliers, which Leeds has in abundance. From amazing make up artists, like Amy George and Aimee Akbar, to wedding planners and stylists, including Sian Chaplin, Emily K Weddings and the Queen of weddings herself, Pamella Dunn. The Whimsical Cake Company, White Rose Cake Designand Poppy Pickering are all fabulous local cake makers who's talents include creating stunning dessert tables, unique wedding favours and show stopping wedding cakes. Jane Beadnell Photography, Laura Calderwood, Fox & Owl and KR Photography all offer different styles of wedding photography and are amazing at what they do! If it's wedding stationery you're after, Cate Dary and JB Creativesare two fantastic local designers. And to add a touch of sparkle to your day, The White Bulb is a truly local business who specialise in making lit up letters with a difference.
