We designed our adjustable neck buff to maximise practicality and comfort. It is shaped around the nose and included stretchy ties which sit above your ears. We make these ties from the same fabric so that they are soft and do not irritate your ears. In addition, the buff is lower at the back of the head to allow the movement of fresh air.
The neck buff is appropriate as a face covering as it is washable, double layered and will fit closely to your face. Moreover, it is easy to wear around your neck when it is not on your face.
The ties prevent the neck buff from falling down, which can be a problem with neck buffs. They fasten at the back of the head to your desired length and can be hidden under hair. The ties also enable us to make the buff looser around the mouth to maximise comfort. This buff therefore avoids you feeling claustrophobic and prevents you from ‘eating’ the fabric when you speak. Because the ties are stretchy, you do not need to untie them again to move the buff.
As with all our products, we hand-make these neck buffs ourselves in our workshop in Nottingham, England.
46% Bamboo, 46% Organic Cotton, 8% Elastane
We make our adjustable neck buff from sustainable fabric that is soft, lightweight, breathable and great if you have sensitive skin. The bamboo element has some antimicrobial activity (against bacteria and fungi) and naturally wicks moisture away from the skin.
The fabric has 4-way stretch, so it has multiple uses. Like other gaiters/tube scarves, our buffs can also be used as head bands, hair bands and neck scarves, meaning that even if you buy them for the pandemic, they will also be useful afterwards too for other functions.
Bamboo and organic cotton grow without artificial fertilisers and pesticides. Our fabric comes from a textile company, called Kadeks, based in Izmir, Turkey. This company produces sustainable textiles and they care about supporting sustainable textile projects.
Kadeks works vertically, getting involved in every step of the supply chain starting from cotton, to yarn, to fabric and to non-garment textile goods. They are also certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), meaning that: they meet the standards to be classified as ‘organic’; they do not use toxic substances or dyes during manufacturing; and they produce the fabric in a mill that enforces strict social and environmental standards, treating their employees and the earth with respect.
Our bamboo and organic cotton neck buff is machine washable! Wash regularly to keep safe during the pandemic.
Neck buffs/neck gaiters have found a new popularity as face coverings during the pandemic. Because they are so convenient to wear and make, people may be more likely to wear them.
*NOTE* The World Health Organisation (WHO) states that masks are only effective when used in combination with frequent hand-cleaning. The CDC recommends cloth face masks for the general public as it might prevent people spreading the virus if they are carrying the virus but are asymptomatic (have no symptoms). So if you wear them, please WEAR THEM RESPONSIBLY.
The CDC states that cloth face coverings should:
“-fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face
-include multiple layers of fabric
-allow for breathing without restriction
-be machine washed regularly and machine dried without damage or change to shape
-Individuals should be careful not to touch their eyes, nose, and mouth when removing their mask and wash hands immediately after removing.”
